Marge Davis of Scenic Tennessee, Inc., and founder
of Pride of Place (POP), the effort to increase recycling and reduce
litter by placing a 5-cent deposit on beverage containers (aka the TN Bottle
Bill). She is on the board of the Container Recycling Institute, a national
information clearinghouse; and was recently reappointed to the Governor’s
Advisory Council for Keep Tennessee Beautiful.
Marge is a freelance writer specializing in
environmental issues, particularly the history of conservation. Her 1997
book, “Sportsmen United: The Story of the Tennessee Conservation League,” is
considered a comprehensive account of Tennessee’s conservation movement. She
has written for many of Tennessee’s conservation-related agencies and
organizations, including the Department of Environment and Conservation, the
Wildlife Resources Agency and The Nature Conservancy, and is a regular
contributor to The Tennessee Conservationist magazine.
She has a Ph.D. in English from Vanderbilt
and hopes eventually to finish a murder mystery. She and her husband Paul
Davis, director of Tennessee’s Division of Water Pollution Control, live in Mount Juliet with their dog Twinkle.
